Harry Potter Actress Launches Live Below the Line

Today we launch the 2012 Live Below the Line campaign. Braving the freezing conditions, over 40 Live Below the Line supporters took to Piccadilly Circus and joined Harry Potter star Bonnie Wright at a special dinner party with a difference. Sat ready for an elegant dinner, volunteers were instead treated to a single raw vegetable to highlight the lack of choice available to the 1.4 billion people living off less than £1 per day around the world.

The 2012 campaign is being led by six very influential UK charity partners, including UNICEF, Salvation Army, Christian Aid, RESULTS UK, Restless Development and Malaria No More UK. Over the next six months, Live Below the Line will be challenging thousands of participants who for 5 days will have £5 for all their food and drink, raising £500,000 for anti-poverty initiatives around the globe.

You can pre-register your interest using the form below or find out more here.

Doing my bit to try and reduce world poverty and reduce the risk of accidental candle fires in their communities!

SMALL STEPS TO PROMOTE POVERTY RELIEF AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

Kevin’s Kandles is an innovative concept that provides alternative illumination. They have the potential to make a huge impact in Third World countries as they are much safer than traditional candles, inexpensive – half the cost, convenient and environmentally friendly.
Many organizations promote solar generated energy or installation of electric power grids throughout under developed and developing countries. Unfortunately, the truth of the matter is, that these options are cost prohibitive and decades away. Application is only possible if supported by Relief Organizations on a donation basis. Power grids will never be feasible throughout rural communities.

Kevin’s Kandles promote economic development and sustainability NOW!

Current sources indicate that in West Africa candles are sold at 6 for $ 1.50USD.
- A dwelling requiring 30 candles monthly will pay $ 7.50USD per month for 8-10 hours of illumination.
- If Kevin’s Kandles are retailed for $ 6.00 per pack and vegetable oil is sold at $ 25.00 per 5 gallon container, the cost to the end-user will be approximately $ 3.50 for monthly candle illumination. A savings of +/- $ 4.00 per month.

Economic Impact on Developing Countries:

- Currently, candles that are sold provide little economic stimulation for these countries. The $7.50 candles are imported and $ 7.00+ immediately leaves the country.
- Kevin’s Kandles however rely on domestic vegetable oil. The import product now represented as $ 2.00 per month is complimented by the local vegetable oil at $1.50 per month.
- In this way almost 50% of the monies generated from this consumable product remain in the country, thus stimulating their national economic development and sustainability.

Of course its a duh sioiatutn, journalists almost always come from privileged backgrounds and as they either work for the upper class or advertisers or both, they are rarely are exposed to the real life most people live. Even when they are they really don;t have the freedom to talk about most of the time anyway. We may have freedom of the press in the won't go to jail sense but our news systems are basically about as free as Pravda As for pay, it always wise when possible to overpay people a bit. Not only are generosity and open handedness universally well regarded there are a couple of less philosophical reasons #1 It lowers demand for government services and slows the growth of the state. #2 and most important, wages are demand. I'll repeat that, wages are demand. Without a well paid population, you have no one to sell too and everyone save maybe a few leaches at the top, gets poor.
