Make September Count is gearing up

This September marks one of the most important milestones in the fight to end extreme poverty.

This September heads of state from across the world will be meeting in New York to ask themselves what progress has been made to ensure that mothers needlessly dying in child-birth have the care they need to survive.

Or what progress is being made to ensure that the 24,000 children who die each day due to preventable causes have access to safe drinking water, food security and essential immunizations to stay alive.

This September you have the opportunity to be a crucial part of this picture!

Already over $7,432 has been raised by citizens like you to support this campaign! Thank you for all your support.

If you haven’t already done so, please visit Make September Count and make a small donation to help this crucially important campaign. Even a small donation will make a massive difference!

The donations that have been given have enabled us to bring on board Nicky Wimble. Nicky has been involved in international development for 12 years and has worked for NGOs such as Comic Relief, Oxfam and Caritas. Nicky started her humanitarian work managing women's programs in post-conflict Kosovo but soon after settling in London, turned her skills to global campaigning and has since managed various high profile poverty, health, education and climate change campaigns including Make Poverty History, In My Name, Send my friend to school and the Robin Hood Tax Campaign. She has a Masters degree in International Development and is currently developing a strategy to take the Make September Count campaign forward.

In Nicky’s words: “In a complex communications environment, where the public are bombarded daily with text, email, social networking and traditional advertising campaigns, it is a huge challenge to reach and engage people in the fight against poverty. My hope for this exciting and innovative campaign is that we find a way through the noise, reach new audiences and incite them to want to be part of a better world”

Nicky has been working with our partners at Make Believe in Sydney to create an amazing and interactive comedy video and online petition that puts you right in the middle of the message to world leaders.

You will be helping us get the video out to tens of thousands of people to pass onto their friends - ultimately reaching hundreds of thousands of people.
Here is an example of a similar type of video that was launched just before Barack Obama was elected as US President and which was extremely effective. Check it out here.

This video had a massive ripple effect as people shared it right around the world. We hope that our video will do likewise and send a clear message to world leaders that we can end extreme poverty within our lifetime, and citizens of the world are calling for it.

Our ultimate goal with this campaign is to hold world leaders to account for the promises they have made in our name, and ensure that more attention is given to those Millennium Development Goals that are not on track to being achieved.

Thank you for your support and please share this with your friends who may also like to be involved with what is one of the Global Poverty Project’s most important campaigns yet. Click here to get involved and support this important campaign.
